Nick is a pioneer of the organic movement gaining experience from conducting organic systems research on his farm
with the USDA and participating in the national debates on the passage of organic laws and regulations, while also
operating his own commercial organic farm since 1979. Nick has been a policy advocate for ecologically sound organic
standards, regional food systems, science based research on organic systems, and strengthening the smaller family
farms which he believes provide the innovation and guidance for a more sustainable agriculture.

His whole farm production of vegetables, grains, livestock and forage uniquely positions him to answer questions such as:
Can organic farming really feed the world? Should you buy local or organic? What do all these labels really mean: “natural”,
“cage free”, “grass fed”, “made with organic”? Do our policies, such as the currently debated Farm Bill, help or hurt
sustainable practices?

Nick brings a unique insider’s perspective on how far organic farming has come in the last 30 years and where it is
