The new and improved CSC met this afternoon for some exciting and productive discussion. As a recap, the council talked about:
-PCC Update/Energy Audit for campus
The administration is working on getting better footing with climate issues and by submitting an RFP (Request For Proposals) for energy auditing corporations, is certainly moving in the right direction to sign the PCC in the future. Right now we have a few companies outlined, and a new committee of 4 CSC members was created to further discuss, review, and attend interviews of possible auditors. The whole process of picking an auditor should be done by mid-December.
-The President's Alumni/Parent Council on Sustainability
This council was outlined as an outside, cost-efficient resource for the CSC that would provide expert information to us on any number of issues we choose to tackle on campus, be it solar engineering or wind farms...however no specifics like a meeting time with this council were mentioned, and it seems to be on hold, with few details available.
-AASHE Membership
Bruce Coriell will be talking to different parts of the admin. and figuring out if $1,000 is available for a membership. Another CSC member will be researching different higher education green organizations' memberships and will report on which ones are best for CC to join at the next CSC meeting.
-Facilities Director Search
Howard Drossman will be the "green" member on the search committee, making sure that whoever we choose to work for CC will be sustainably minded. There is a possibility that a student rep. could make it onto the committee, if anyone's interested, with the help of a CCCA (Sierra's) recommendation.
-Endowment Institute Report
Remember the report card of colleges' endowments and overall campus sustainability-- the one that CC wasn't included in? Well, now we're getting included, and the full evaluation of CC should be done before winter.
-New Freshmen Member(s) for the CSC
Wiley drafted up an application for one or two freshmen candidates to hop on the CSC. The other students on the CSC will decide which applicants will be accepted.
-Focus the Nation
Could use a student rep. from CC, seeing as Bill McKibben is coming to campus quite soon. Email Howard Drossman if you're interested.
-CC is installing a fancy energy-efficient water cooling system for our water main-- which will save a whole lot of C02 from going into the air-- roughly 96,000 tree's worth, I believe. Hooee.
!The next CSC meeting is Third Wednesday at 3:30 in the ERC!
Open-door, all are welcome to attend and see what's up.
As Ever,
Katie
